Dihydropteroate synthase (DHPS) gene mutation study in HIV-Infected Indian patients with Pneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia.
INTRODUCTION Pneumocystis jirovecii dihydropteroate synthase (DHPS) gene mutations' (55th and 57th codon) association with prior sulfa prophylaxis failure has been reported from both developed and developing countries. We conducted a prospective study to determine the prevalence of P. jirovecii DHPS mutations from 2006 to 2009 on P. jirovecii isolates obtained from HIV-infected patients with a ...
متن کاملAntiretroviral therapy and intestinal microsporidiosis in Thai HIV infected patients.
Sir, Intestinal parasite infection, which is also one of the basic health problems in tropical region, is common in the HIV infected patients in tropical countries. The lack of sufficient antiretroviral therapy is mentioned among those patients (Wiwanitkit, 2001). In Thailand, human microsporidiosis has been sporadically reported since its first documentation (Pitisuttithum et al., 1995). In th...
متن کاملPopulation pharmacokinetics of nevirapine in Thai HIV-infected patients.
BACKGROUND Nevirapine-based antiretroviral therapy is widely used as a first-line treatment for HIV-infected patients in resource-limited settings. Nevirapine plasma concentration has been shown to be associated with virological response and treatment failure. Therefore, identifying sources of the variability of nevirapine pharmacokinetics is important for dose optimization. The purpose of the ...
متن کاملPrevalence of lipodystrophy in Thai-HIV infected patients.
To determine the prevalence and clinical characteristics of lipodystrophy in HIV-infected Thai patients, a cross-sectional study was performed on 278 HIV-infected patients at Bamrasnaradura Infectious Disease Institute. Laboratory data related to lipid and glucose metabolism were obtained from both patients who self reported fat maldistribution or diagnosed by a physician. The history of antire...
متن کاملMutational analysis of Pneumocystis jirovecii dihydropteroate synthase and dihydrofolate reductase genes in HIV-infected patients in China.
We investigated Pneumocystis jirovecii dihydropteroate synthase (DHPS) and dihydrofolate reductase (DHFR) genes for mutations in 25 Chinese HIV-infected patients with P. jirovecii pneumonia. We identified DHPS mutations in 3 (12%) patients and DHFR mutations in 1 (4%) patient. The prevalence of DHPS and DHFR mutations in China remains low, as it does in other developing countries.
